Ski holidays in Neustift - Stubai - just 30 minutes drive from Innsbruck, Stubai is one of Austria's most beautiful valleys just over the Brenner pass from Italy and home to some beautiful yet quaint family friendly ski resorts and Austria's largest glacier.
However, don't be fooled by it's quaintness! Stubai punches well above it's weight when you sample the ski terrain and when it comes to the apres-ski - relaxed and fun is how we would describe it.
Whilst not the highest, the Stubai glacier is very large with the pistes normally open from the start of October through to June offering one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps! This is one of the major attractions - being able to ski on uncrowded pistes, off season and without the heft prices!
Après-ski
The villages in the Stubai valley can be as lively or as relaxing as you want to make it with several good bars and restaurants to relax in. Probably the best way to describe the après-ski is typical Austrian with Tyrolean style "knees up" evenings which people tend to enjoy.
Wellness & spa
Neustift has several spa hotels for relaxation and wellbeing - quite similar to Bormio in Italy although without the thermal waters.

Neustift - Stubai Ski Area Guide
Ski holidays in Neustift are about combining the winter sports activities with relaxation and wellbeing. The whole Stubai valley offers 140km of piste covering the ski areas of:
- Elfer above the village at Neustift
- Schlick 2000 above the village of Fulpmes
- The Serles area above Mieders - Serles is the famous peak acting like a centurion to the entrance of the Stubai valley, and
- the Stubai glacier which is the main and best area with 110km of slopes
The local ski area is relatively small and is accessed by the Elfer gondola rising to just over 1800m. From there, you take a drag to the highest point, Elferhütte at 2080m and then can ski down what is basically a long red run back to Neustift.
If you fancy staying in the Neustift area, you can buy an individual lift pass just for the slopes around the village but we would recommend buying the area pass giving access to the glacier.
Beginners
For the complete beginner, there are some excellent nursery slopes at Fulpmes and the Neustift with gentle open slopes that are ideal for learning the basics.
However, beginners are fortunate in Stubai to be able to experience the thrills of being on a glacier at 3000m with 50km of green and blue pistes - very rare!
Intermediate
Most of the terrain throughout the valley is geared towards beginners and intermediates with long open pistes that are great for carving. There is also the fun park on the glacier to try a few tricks.
Advanced
For the advanced skier there are a few blacks but most of the fun is off the piste and on the 20km of trails. If you are thinking of doing this on the glacier, it is essential you take a guide.
Snowboard
A natural fun park is available for snowboarders in the Schlick 2000 Ski Centre. There is also plenty for snowboarders on the Stubai Glacier including the snowboard fun park with it's table-top and quarter-pipe.
Cross-country
In total there is about 100 km of cross-country skiing tracks from beginner to expert in the Stubai Valley. On the glacier, there are 2km of high-altitude cross-country skating tracks.
