Gressoney-La-Trinite ski resort guide & reviews Ski area, apres-ski, things to see & do in Gressoney
Overview
Gressoney-La-Trinite is a high altitude resort sitting at 1637m in the Gressoney valley of the Monte Rosa ski area. It is flanked by the Val d’Ayason the left which is home to Champoluc and Valsesia on the right where you will find the pretty vilage of Alagna.
The town is compact and the streets are dotted with shops, bars and great family run restaurants. Other than the skiing, there is a sports centre with swimming pool, sauna, gym and tennis courts.
Gressoney Après-ski
The nightlife is fairly relaxed and is more about enjoying the local cuisine in the excellent family run restaurants. However, there are several bars such as Hirsch Stube which do get very lively especially at the weekends when the locals from Turin and Milan escape the city.
Gressoney-Saint-Jean is the largest village in the valley and just 6kms away from Gressoney-la-Trinite. There, you will find a more extensive apres-ski scene with a larger selection of bars plus a nightclub.

Gressoney-La-Trinite - Monte Rosa ski area guide
The Monte Rosa ski area is one of the largest in Italy with 180km of pistes spread across three valleys and vertical drops of 1760m.
Surrounded by 4000m peaks and the Monte Rosa glacier, the snow reliability is generally very good plus there is extensive snow making facilities. The ski season typically starts in the first week of December and runs through to late April. Ski touring continues in to June where the mountain huts are used for overnight stays.
From Gressoney-La-Trinite, you can either ski to Champoluc on the left or over to Alagna.... From the Bettaforca Pass or Passo dei Salati, you get panoramic views of the Monte Rosa glacier.
Beginners
There are many wide, open and gentle pistes around Gressoney-La-Trinite for beginners and also between Champoluc and Frachey.
Intermediate
A paradise for intermediates especially if you like touring with literally more piste than you could possibly cover in a week when you explore the full extent of the Monte Rosa trails. One of our favourite runs is the "The Goat Run" accessed from the top of the Colle Sarezza.
Advanced
The most challenging run in the Gressoney-La-Trinite sector is the very scary “Gialla” piste which is reserved for very experienced skiers. Other than that, most experts will head to the long off-piste trails in Alagna or take a guided ski tour around the 4000m peaks of the Monte Rosa massif.
Heli-skiing is also very popular as the Monte Rosa massif offers high altitude drop-off points giving over 2000m of vertical! These back-country trails flowing off the high peaks are some of the best in the Alps.
Snowboarding
As Gressoney-La-Trinite has many wide and gentle pistes and few draglifts, it is an ideal resort for beginner and early intermediate snowboarders. Experienced boarders will love the off-piste trails especially on the Alagna side and heliboarding from the 4000m peaks is not to be missed.
