Summer holidays in Zermatt - the village gets very busy during the summer with the mountain climbers wanting to take on the mighty Matterhorn. Or, you can simply chill out by the hotel pools, relax in one of the many spas and soak up the atmosphere. Zermatt is also well-known for its relaxed and friendly shopping in the pedestrianised centre, along the famous Bahnhofstrasse or through the little lanes and alleys, where you are never too far away from friendly cafés and bars.

Spring, Summer & Autumn Skiing

Zermatt summer skiing - home to the largest and highest summer skiing area in Europe at 3899m, Zermatt offers 21km of pistes and 8 ski lifts operating all summer. The pistes on the glacier are wide and good for beginners and intermediates but there is also some steep black terrain with moguls. For boarders, the Gravity Snowboard Park - one of the best freestyle parks in Europe with a Superpipe, kicker park, rail park, and snowskate park is also open during the summer from May to November and is a good place to chill out, listen to the music and grab a drink.

Day Trips

Summer holidays in Zermatt consist of long sunny days that can get surprisingly hot with temperatures often north of 30 degrees. This means you have that Mediterranean climate but being surrounded by mountains, glaciers and lakes means there is so much to see and do including the Dossen Glacier and the hanging bridge over the Gornera Gorge. Cervinia

Take the cable car up to the Plateau Rosa area and then catch the ride down in to the beautiful Italian resort of Cervinia. Here you can go for a pic-nic by the lake or experience some local Italian cuisine in one of the many mountain restaurants or in the village.

Lakes

Zermatt has over 50 mountain lakes to explore with the most popular being along the Five-Lakes Trail that includes Stellisee lake, which mirrors the Matterhorn and Leisee lake on Sunegga. Here the children can play in the water, take a ride on a raft or build a dam. It's also a great spot for a picnic or BBQ

Glacier Express

This is the cult train for railway fans – the route takes you from Zermatt and on to St Moritz or Davos. Travelling through some of the most of the most breath taking scenery in the Alps, passing through 91 tunnels and crossing 291 bridges that span the impressive valleys and gorges.
