Ski holidays in Saalback - Hinterglemm - both attractive and lively alpine villages in the Glemm Valley, 4km apart from each other and across the mountain from Leogang in the next valley.
Après-ski
The après-ski is typically Austrian - lively and fun and as usual in many Austrian ski resorts, starts off on the mountain mid afternoon and finishes in the early hours.
Starting at the Hinterhagalm at the top of the beginners T bar in Saalbach, it has live bands pumping out all the classics with dancing on tables - the problem is you have to board or ski back in the dark if you stay too long!!!
Spa & Wellbeing
There is a public sports centre in Hinterglemm with sauna and steam rooms together with an in and outdoor pool.
Childcare
There are several ski kindergarten clubs that take children from the age of 3 and are excellent blending in introductory ski sessions with indoor entertainment. Also, many of the hotels offer day care.

Saalbach & Hinterglemm Ski Area Guide
Saalbach - Hinterglemm have invested heavily on their infrasture over the years resulting in one of the slickest lift systems in Austria together with snow-cannons that now cover 90% of the pistes.
In terms of the ski area, there are 270kms of pistes to discover spanning 3 resorts so you certainly get good variety with some superb touring options...
And, if you don't fancy skiing or the weather is not that great, Saalbach has plenty of other activities to keep you occupied...

Beginners
The nursery slopes are in the village centre which is the ideal location for your first few days on the slopes.
Intermediate
Of the 270km of pistes, 185km are devoted to Red and Blue runs so perfect for the intermediate skier. If you are a confident and fit then a definite must is to ski around the circus in a day going in either direction.
This is similar to the Sella Ronda circuit in Corvara and Alta Badia in the Italian Dolomites. Sun worshippers will probably follow the anti-clockwise direction.
Advanced
There are some great touring opportunities across the ski-circus area where you can find some fantastic pistes and itineraries. Experts will love the Nordabfahrt on Schattberg Ost and the World Cup run on the Zwolferkogel in Hinterglemm.
The off-piste itineraries in to Leogang and by Hintermaisalm and Walleggalm are good fun and challenging.
Cross-country
There are 12km of beautiful scenic trails for cross-countryskiing in the local area. However, if you want distance then head over to Leogang where there are another 150km!!
Snowboarding
The area is perfect for beginners to good intermediates with 185km of blue and red well groomed wide pistes to cruise along. There is loads of off-piste with trees so be careful and if you want to try out some jumps and tricks, there are 3 snow-parks to choose from.

There is a wide selection of self catering accommodation in Saalbach and Hinterglemm including ski chalets and apartments which are ideal for family holidays. Renting a holiday home provides the space, freedom and flexibility to do what you want, when you want.
Our View on Saalbach - Hinterglemm
Saalbach - Hinterglemm are two wonderful ski resorts offering varied ski terrain, great touring options and plenty of action off the slopes with the apres-ski being as relaxed or lively as you want it to be. A few suggestions for your ski holidays...
- If you are staying in Saalbach, do not under estimate the time it takes to get back if you have strayed to outer reaches of Hinterglemm or Leogang - leave plenty of time!
- Visit the Kitzsteininhorn glacier above Kaprun. At the top, there are many things to do at the “Summit World 3000” with a national gallery, cinema, shops and restaurants all at 3000m!! In summer, you can go tubing on the glacier, sunbathing on the snow beach or chill out in the ice bar – we think this is a great day trip for the whole family
- Take a day trip to Zell am See - set at the side of the lake, this medieval town is fascinating with plenty of shops, cafes and bars and is just a 30 minute drive
