La Rosière resort guide SKi area, apores-ski, Things to See & Do in La Rosiere

Overview

La Rosière is a high altitude resort sitting at 1850m sharing the extensive ski area with La Thuile in Italy. The resort is split into the main village and the newer but smaller satellite village of Les Eucherts a short bus ride from the centre with both providing high speed chairlifts to the main ski area.

Compared to it's neighbours of Val d'Isere, Tignes and Les Arcs, La Rosiere is much smaller, quieter and has managed to keep its charm and tradition making it an extremely friendly and welcoming resort. The village is compact so you can walk everywehere and if you are not skiing, the streets are dotted with shops, bars and great family run restaurants.

Après-ski

The nightlife is fairly relaxed and is more about enjoying the local cuisine in the restaurants around the centre of the resort. However, there are several lively bars which do get busy especially at the weekends. Try Le Mckinley at the base of the slopes for an early drink after skiing, Le Petit Danois which offers live music on certain days of the week, or the Moo Bar lounge and nightclub for late night entertainment.

La Rosière ski area guide

The La Rosière - La Thuile ski area which is known as Espace San Bernado, provides 160km of pistes spread across both resorts. From the village, there are a series of lifts that take you to Col de la Traversette at 2,383m. Its a fairly short and easy red down the other side where you take 2 drag lifts to access La Thuile's ski area. These drags are nearly 3kms long in total and are not that appealing when the strong winds come in!

skiing in La Rosiere

Beginners

There are 4 great beginner areas accessed from the village centre and Les Eucherts and includes four free lifts - not often seen! The connecting blue runs above the nursery slopes provide the next challenge although a few are a little steep.

Intermediate

A paradise for intermediates especially if you like touring with literally more piste than you could possibly cover in a week when you venture over in to La Thuile. One of our favourite runs is the 11km cruise down to La Thuile from the top of the Fourclaz Express lift.

Advanced

Not too much for experts on-piste but there are some seriously steep trails heading back into town on the Italian side plus lots of off-piste opportunities. The back-country trails flowing off the high peaks are some of the best in the Alps and can be accessed by helicopter. Snowboarding

As La Rosiere has many wide and gentle pistes and not too many draglifts making it an ideal resort for beginners and early intermediate boarders. There is also a terrain park called Poletta which is designed for all abilities with green, blue and red lines including rails plus airbag.
