These days, tourism is the main business and its not just ski holidays in the winter. Après-ski
Après-ski in Fügen revolves around cosy cafes, excellent restaurants preparing traditional and international food and many bars to guarantee you entertaining evenings and nights.
Spa & Wellbeing
The "Erlebnistherme Zillertal" thermal spa in Fügen has a spa and sauna area to relax in - perfect on one of those bad weather days where skiing or anything outdoors is just not going to be fun.

Fügen Ski Area Guide
The closest ski area to the resort is called Spieljoch and reached by gondola directly from the resort. Its a good place to start your skiing career but has limited terrain with only a handful of lifts and pistes. However, due to some significant spend and improvement in infrastructure across the Zillertal valley, the ski areas are more inter-connected.
Hochfügen (the main ski area of Fügen), at 1500m is linked to Kaltenbach, itself a small village in the Ziller valley which in turn, is linked to the Hochzzillertal area (5 gondolas, 10 Chairlifts and 22 Drags). The point is that there is a serious amount of ground to cover if you fancy touring and most of it is geared to the intermediate skier and boarder.
Beginners
Beginners and children are very well catered in Fügen. Access to the ski schools and beginner area is via the Spieljochbahn gondola.
Further up the mountain, near the mid-station of the Montana gondola, there are more gentle slopes to try out and up there, you get a better feeling of what skiing is all about.
Intermediate
After one or two days on the Spieljoch area, intermediates should head for Hochfügen and Kaltenbach where there are plenty of inter-linked reds and blues.
Advanced
Expert skiers do not have much to challenge them in the Fügen area and are better to head on the free shuttle up to Mayrhofen and the Hintertux glacier.
Snowboard
Fügen has a specialised boarding park and halfpipe for snowboard fans.
Other ski holiday activities
There are 9km of cross-country trails at HochFügen that range in level from medium to challenging and if you like sledging, Fügen has a 1.5km natural toboggan run which is floodlit every evening. Great fun for the kids and adults.

Our view on Fügen
A delightful d=family friendly resort with easy access to all the skim areas of the Zillertal Valley including the high altitude glacial trails on the Hintertux glacier. A few suggestions....
- Try a days skiing at Mayrhofen followed by some early apres-ski which is very lively and good fun
- Even if you do not want to ski, a trip up to the top of the Hintertux glacier is worth a visit. Spectacular views and there is nothing like eating a veal snitzel with a cold beer on the sun terrace of the mountain restaurant!!
If you like Fügen, you may also want to look at Samoens in the Grand Massif area of the French Alps and Canazei in the Italian Dolomites.
