How to get to Telluride

Geographically, Telluride is in southwest Colorado where the state touches the borders of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. With the continued development of the airport at Telluride, getting there is getting much easier. However, landing at any other airport can make Telluride appear as being off the beaten track - this does have it's advantages as the scenery on route to the canyon is spectacular.

By plane

The closest international airport is Colorado Springs around 450 km east of Telluride but you can fly to Telluride's own airport with a transfer of just 10km. Flights are not as frequent but the service is improving every year with increasing routes from major US cities.

Montrose airport is another option at with transfers time of around 2 hours to cover the 145km.

By train

Unfortunately, there is no train service to Telluride. The nearest station is at Grand Junction and from there, you will need to book on to a transfer to Telluride. It will take around 2 1/2 hours to cover the 230 miles.

By car

If you are flying in to any of the local airports and have not booked an airport transfer to the ski resort, the only other option to get to Telluride is to hire a car. Remember that Telluride is a very high ski resort and a four-wheel drive with snow snow tyres is a sensible option. Driving from Denver will take about 7 hours to cover the 330 miles (530 km) and around 5 hours if you are coming up from Albuquerque in New Mexico.
