Resort Review
Ski holidays in Levi - Finland's largest ski resort 170km north of the Arctic Circle. A compact all year round village packed with things to do on and off the slopes.
Being so far North, has its plus and minus points. On the plus side, snow is guaranteed despite the low levels and if you are visiting between Autumn and early spring, theres a very good chance you'll get to see the Northern Lights, otherwise known as Aurora Borealis.
The disadvantage is that during the height of winter, daylight hours are limited and its gets very cold! The best time to go skiing is March and April where the days are longer and warmer.
Après-Ski
There is a good choice of lively bars and restaurants (58) throughout the ski resort offering local and international cuisine. For late night entertainment, theres the Crazy Reindeer club that gets very busy at weekends.
Children
There is a "Kids Land" which has indoor and outdoor kindergartens for 6 month to 7 year olds. The outdoor kindergarten is free if the kids are skiing with a parent. Helmets are compulsory. In total, there are 10 runs for children serviced by 10 lifts.

Levi Ski Area Guide
Levi is the largest ski resort in Finland with 45 groomed pistes (15 floodlit) which puts it on a par with some of the European resorts but do not expect to be able to go touring all day. Having said that, there is lots of exploring in the forest that surrounds the resort and surprisingly good terrain for all levels which explains why Levi is a popular ski destination in Finland.
Beginners
It has to be said that due to the large number of drags and T-bars, Levi is not ideal for the virgin skier or boarder. However, once you have mastered how to turn, stop and stay on the T-bar, life on the slopes becomes enjoyable and progression on to the blue slopes gives access to lots more terrain.
Intermediate
Levi is great for intermediate skiers and boarders with wide groomed pistes and relatively uncrowded except for at weekends.
Advanced
There is not much to challenge the serious skier apart from the World Cup run by the gondola - this is steep and icy and will test any expert!
Cross-country
The cross-country skiing season starts with the first frost in October/ November with the opening of the 9 km-long Ensilumenlatu (first snow track), which is free-of-charge. On the illuminated track, there is a 37m height difference is basically designed for competitive skiers.
Snowboard
There is one snow park catering for all levels plus for more advanced boarders, there is a halfpipe and superpipe.

March and April are the busiest months when the days are longer and warmer and the snow conditions are at their best so early booking is recommended.

- One of the must do trips is a visit to the Santapark for the kids. This is about 2 1/2 hours drive away and is a full day excursion
