Klosters Ski Resort Guide & Reviews Ski Area, Apres-Ski, Spa & Wellbeing, Accommodation, Other Activities
Overview
Klosters ski resort is located in the canton of Graubünden and is linked to Davos, Europe's highest city at 1560m with a permanent population of over 11,000.
Many people prefer the more alpine and village feel of Klosters including members of the Royal family that ski here. The heart of the resort is called Platz and centres itself around the railway station. This is where you will find the trendy bars and restaurants including the Michelin-starred Walserstube in the Walserhof hotel.
As you continue down the main drag to the outskirts of the villag you come to Klosters Dorf. This is much quieter with less apres-ski venues but is where you will find some of the more luxury chalets.
Klosters ski area
The Davos-Klosters ski area has 110 trails that provide over 320km of skiing spread over 6 ski areas across 5 mountains!
Thats an awful lot of terrain which does not even include the vast amount if off-piste opportunities in the back-country which is ideal for ski touring. The local ski area at Klosters can be found at Madrisa which is accessed via the gondola at Klosters Dorf.
For the Davos ski area, take the cable car from the railway station in Platz up to Gotschnagra which is part of the Parsenn area in the Davos sector.

Pischa, Madrisa & Rinerhorn
These areas are the best for families with children's fun areas dotted everywhere.
Schatzalp - Strela
The Schatzalp-Strela slopes in Davos are mainly for "slow skiing" just like they have in Cortina. These are dedicated pistes for those who want to chill out and do some skiing at their own pace. The funicular from Davos Platz takes you to Schatzalp - Strela in four minutes.
Jakobshorn
Jakobshorn is home to the snowpark and therefore full of snowboards and free-stylers.
Parsenn
On the opposite side of the mountain lies the Parsenn ski area which is the largest and has the most challenging runs including the 12 km run from Weissfluhgipfel to Küblis. On Fridays, you can also do night skiing.
Beginners
Beginners and children are very well catered for on the south facing slopes of Madrisa.
Intermediate
Intermediates tend to head over to Parsenn which has wide open pistes and long reds that head in to Klosters.
Advanced
Expert skiers have several black pistes to try but the thrills come from the off-piste itineraries such those found at Madrisa and Jakobshorn which in good conditions take some beating.
Cross-country
Klosters is home to some superb cross-country trails with over 46km to explore and no pass required.
Snowboard
The snow park is in the Jakobshorn ski area and has various half pipes and jumps.
Other ski holiday activities
- Ice skating
- Winter walking and snowshoeing trails
- Dog sleighs
- Tobogganing
- Parapenting
Après-ski
The nightlife in Klosters is not as extensive as you would expect from a world famous ski resort and certainly not on a par with some of the party resorts such as St Anton or Ischgl in Austria . However, Klosters is not focused on partying to the early hours and offers more of a sophisticated cosmopolitan experience with fine dining in the top hotels. There are good pizza restaurants and local rustic eateries catering for all budgets and tastes.
Featured Klosters ski chalets & apartments
Klosters accommodation
There are many smart apartments to rent in the centre of town and a full range of hotels close to all the shops, bars and restaurants. Alternatively, if you want to be closer to the slopes, there are many privately owned chalets to rent. These offer the space and freedom to do what you want, when you want and are ideal for families.
Our view on Klosters
We think Klosters ski resort is a lovely village with easy access to a wide ski area. While it has a reputation for being ridiculously expensive, there are are some good value bas and restaurants to be found - but not many!
For skiers, the area is just fantastic. Check out the red 12km Kublis run on Parsenn. This has a vertical of some 2000m and is open to all level's of skier - except complete beginners!
There is also some excellent touring options for intermediate skiers and more advanced such as the high altitude trail from Davos to the chic resort of Arosa or over to Gargellen in Austria.
