Keystone Ski Area Guide
Keystone is situated in the White River National Forest high up in the Rocky Mountains. The ski area is spread over 3 peaks: Dercum Mountain, North Peak and Outback which is the highest at 11980 feet. Being in the National Forest, Keystone has some of the best tree skiing in Colorado with acres of fun-packed forest runs with the best being on Outback’s North and South Bowls.
Another plus for Keystone is that there are 9 trails for night skiing with the pistes closing at 8pm making it the largest night skiing operation in Colorado.
Beginners
The beginner areas with most of the easy slopes are on Dercum Mountain. There is a massive incentive to get better quickly and progress to the North Peak as that's when the fun starts.
Intermediate
Intermediate skiers and boarders head to the North Peak with long cruising blue and red trails.
Advanced
The North Peak is also home to some of the best challenging terrain and is where most of the blacks can be found.
The Bergman, Erikson and Independence bowls are fantastic and typically skied as part of a guided cat tour.
Cross-country
There are 73 miles of cross-country trails that wind through the forests.
Snowboard
The A51 Terrain Park is ranked in the top 10 parks in the US by both Transworld Snowboarding Magazine and Freeskier Magazine. The park is geared up for all levels of skier and boarder and is a good fun place just to chill out.
Things To See & Do
- At the top of Dercum Mountain, you'll discover the Adventure Park with four tubing lanes - great fun for the whole family
- Toboganning
- Sleigh rides
- Snow shoeing
- Ice skating at Dercum Square
Childcare
One of it's kind is the Kidtopia Snow Fort at the top of Dercum Mountain. It's open all day and the kids will have a great time climbing the fort and getting lost in the maze.

Our view on Keystone ski resort
We think Keystone is one of those resorts you have to experience at least once in your life - amazing skiing terrain, guaranteed snow, excellent accommodation, superb cuisine and impeccable service. Some suggestions for your ski holidays...
- Don't buy a day ticket unless you are literally only there for a day. Like many resorts in Colorado, a day pass costs around $100
- Keystone’s Ski Tip Lodge is an old 1880’s stagecoach stop that now is a quaint, cozy B&B. The Ski Tip is located off-the-beaten path, away from the hustle and bustle of Keystone’s River Run village and is a romantic après ski location perfect for enjoying a nice glass of wine.
