Grindelwald ski area guide
There are 3 ski areas to discover on your ski holidays in Grindelwald which together, give over 200km of piste and lots more off-piste than you can dream for:
- Grindelwald-First
- Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen
- Mürren-Schilthorn
Ski touring
One of the classic ski tours leads from the Jungfraujoch down the Aletsch glacier ending up at Lötschental. The glacier is 23km in length and the longest glacier in the Alps just edging past the Valley Blanche glacial run in Chamonix.
Beginners
Grindelwald-First is the sunniest of the 3 areas and is particularly suited to families and children as there is also a fun park called the White Elements where they can play. However, this is not linked to the other areas. Most beginners will start their ski lessons here before progressing up to the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen areas.
Intermediate
The Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen area caters for all levels of ability offering everything from nursery slopes to the more challenging Lauberhorn run.
Advanced
For more experienced skiers and boarders, head towards the Mürren-Schilthorn area. There is the 15km Inferno run with a drop of 2000m between the Schilthorn via Mürren and down to Lauterbrunnen - an absolute must. The off-piste areas are also extensive and challenging.
Other ski holiday activities

Snowboard
The off-piste is very popular with snowboarders as there are many powder bowls on the Mürren-Schilthorn area.
Toboganning
If you like sledging then Grindelwald has one of the longest tracks in the alps at 15km. It starts at the Faulhorn and drops by Bussalp down to Grindelwald with a drop of 1600m - superb fun for all the family but remember to wear goggles as the snow sprays into your face.
Our view on Grindelwald ski holidays
We think Grindelwald is a great all year round ski resort either for skiing where there is simply too many pistes to cover in a week or for your summer mountain holidays. With so many activities and things to see, Grindelwald is an ideal resort for family holidays.
- Ski over to Wengen and head up to the Piz gloria revolving restaurant for a lunch with a view you won't forget!
- Ski the Lauberhorn World Cup downhill run in to Wengen - but watch your speed
- A night-time tobogganing ride from Bussalp down to Grindelwald after a cheese fondue in the Rasthysi
If you like Grindelwald being a pretty and charming alpine village then also quite similar is the beautiful resort of Le Grand Bornand in the Aravis Massif of Haute Savoie in France and Canazei in the Italian Dolomites. Both resorts offer exceptional opportunities for touring with many connected resorts under one lift pass.
